Fall may be around the corner, but for now summer is still here and the heat is still in full swing. So of course, the last thing I want to do in 80 degree weather (I’m in Vermont, that’s super hot for me), is use heat styling tools on my hair for a half hour. By the time I’m done, I’m drenched in sweat and my hair is already beginning to frizz… it’s just not worth it.
For this reason, I was so excited to see the Bumble and Bumble Don’t Blow It (H)air Styler in a Play! by Sephora box. This hair cream is meant for air-dried hair, and will help keep the frizz at a minimum while giving hair a weightless, crunchless hold. This is just what I needed.
Bumble and Bumble Don’t Blow It (H)air Styler
This innovative hair cream creates a more refined take on this relaxed style for great hair days—without the heat or hassle. A texture-enhancing blend of lightweight polymers boosts hair’s natural texture and adds bounce while a plant-based conditioning blend keeps hair soft and hydrated.
First things first, I’m into the scent. Like other Bumble and Bumble products, it offers a clean, fresh scent that is pleasant, but that won’t overpower the hair. It gives my clean hair a nice boost, but if you’re sensitive to scents I wouldn’t say that this lasts all day. I prefer this since I’m a fan of perfumes, so I don’t really need my hair to overpower.
The consistency of this cream is gel-like, and reminds me a lot of a gel face moisturizer. with only a dime-sized dollop, you will cover a large area of hair – I found that this is very good for the amount of product you get for the $$. I use my fingers to run this through my damp hair, and I let it sit to do its thang.
When left to air dry, my hair can be a wavy (aka frizzy) mess. It will have a beautiful wave in one section, and a pouffy mass of frizz in another – there’s really no rhyme or reason. I have tried leave-in creams in the past to no avail, so I was a bit skeptical of the Bumble and Bumble Don’t Blow It (H)air Styler.
However, I do find that this product works! It really helped to reduce the frizz in my hair, and I love that it doesn’t leave my hair feeling crunchy or looking greasy. The formula is very moisturizing, so if you do struggle with oily hair this may be a bit much, but on my hair I found it soaked right in and kept those flyaways from springing into action.
Once my hair is completely dry I’ve usually passed the danger zone. Once it’s in place, it will likely look the same for the rest of the day. With this product, I felt that my hair was much softer, and it had a beautiful shine that I can’t always achieve with air dried hair.
The one downfall to this product is that it did have my hair looking oily faster than if I had not used it, so while I can usually give my hair 2-3 days on a single wash, with this product I had only 2 days. But, since I wasn’t using heat on my hair, I didn’t feel that my hair was as stressed or damaged, so I was ok with washing more often.
Overall, this product gets an A+ from me. It’s affordable, you get a lot of use from it, the scent is nice and it really works!
