In a typical year there’s no way that I should qualify for Sephora’s VIB Rouge status, and to be honest I’m a little sticker shocked that I’ve spent over $1000 in a year on beauty (only from Sephora). I decided to invest in some new tools for the year including the Drybar Buttercup Blow Dryer and the T3 SinglePass Luxe Professional Straightening and Styling Iron and gave some higher ticket items a try like the SUNDAY RILEY Good Genes All-In-One Lactic Acid Treatment. Unfortunately for my wallet, this all added up to yikes territory and earned me a spot on the VIB Rouge team.
While I don’t feel like the benefits are out of this world for spending that kind of money, some of the perks are nice. To welcome me into the club, Sephora sent a travel-size NARS Blush in luxe black packaging, which was a treat to open.
The blush in question is the VIB Rouge exclusive shade in Goulue, which is a beautiful “warm berry with gold shimmer.” True to its description, the shade really warms up the cheeks and gives a beautiful flush that looks especially nice with a tan. In the winter this blush is a bit much on my pale skin, but because I have an olive undertone I think it will be stunning with a little bit of color.

In the swatches above, the top swatch is a single pass, while the bottom is a couple of passes, so you can quickly build up the color. If you’re the type that’s heavy-handed, you may want to look for a less pigmented shade. This is the kind of color where you’ll lightly bop your brush into the product and you have enough for one cheek.
Does this blush apply well?
Whether you’re applying over foundation, or on a more natural skin-day with a bit of concealer under the eyes I find that it applies smoothly and evenly. I use a small blush brush with fluffy, loosely packed bristles so that I’m able to smooth the pigment on the area of my cheek without packing too much in one spot.
Because it’s a brighter pink, this looks lovely on the apples of my cheeks. The shimmer isn’t too overpowering when applied lightly, so even though I sometimes have texture from dry skin it doesn’t emphasize this.
In the summer I think I’ll be a fan of this shade – as it is I’m still a bit pale to pull this off in Vermont. However, it’s less than a month away from my upcoming vacation, so I’m excited to bring this mini along for the ride!
