As always, when I saw that striped box on my doorstep I was beyond excited. The Play! by Sephora subscription is by far the best that I’ve tried! At only $10 a month, the brand samples that you receive are well worth the price, and this month was no exception.
Including products from NARS, Too Faced and Origins I already felt like I got a great value, but also received samples from Clinique, Sephora and Marc Jacobs. I think this may be my favorite one yet!
To start, the satin pouch that the products came in this month is so beautiful, I know I will continue using it in the future. The soft pink shade beautifully matches the types of products you find inside, and with Valentine’s Day in the same month I appreciated the romantic hue.
What I received in this month’s Play! by Sephora
Sephora Collection Lashcraft Mascara
The first item I pulled out of the bag was a sample of the SEPHORA COLLECTION LashCraft Length & Volume Mascara. At only $7 for the full size, I’m really hoping to love this mascara. The applicator looks very promising, with a wired fluffy brush I know I’ll be able to create volume – this is my favorite type of wand. I’m holding off on opening this lovely until I have used up some of my older mascara samples, but I’m really excited that this was included in the bag.
Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream
The next item I pulled out was the Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream which I have tried in the past and loved. I truly appreciate the size of this sample, and know that I will get a lot of use out of it. This eye cream is thick, but not so thick that I won’t absorb easily. It also has a little bit of a peach-toned sheen to help reduce the appearance of dark circles. While I don’t feel that this product helps to improve dark circles over time, the added shimmer is very nice for daily wear. It also wears very well under concealer and does not crease, which I love!
Clinique Pep-Start Hydroblur Moisturizer
The item I must say I’m least excited to try is the CLINIQUE Pep-Start HydroBlur Moisturizer. Because my skin is so dry, I’m hesitant to switch up my moisturizer often, and because this sample is surprisingly small for a brand that usually provides larger trial sizes, I don’t feel that I’ll have enough to try for an extended period of time. I also was not a huge fan of the CLINIQUE Pep-Start Eye Cream, which was the complete opposite of the GinZing eye cream above. I may give this one a go before writing it off completely, but it may become a two-use moisturizer for my décolleté.
NARS Velvet Lip Glide in Bound
The item I was most excited to see was the beautiful NARS Velvet Lip Glide in Bound. I have adored every single item I’ve ever tried from NARS, and this velvet lip gloss keeps the trend going. It’s not a matte liquid lipstick like many of the formulas out now, but is a less glossy, more velvety (as the name would suggest) lipgloss formula. In the swatch above it looks a little bit patchy, but it applies to the lips nicely. I’m a fan of this muted berry shade and will definitely wear this with so many different looks. I love it!
Too Faced Lip Injection Glossy in Milkshake
I think this one is going to be a love/hate for subscribers, but I do LOVE the Too Faced Lip Injection Glossy in Milkshake. Too Faced made my all-time favorite Glamour Gloss which is now a retired formula. However, this formula similarly has a menthol/bee sting feeling that will help to plump your lips and give them a smooth, pouty look. If you’re sensitive to these formulas, I’d probably stay away. While on my lips this formula only gave a very mild sensation, where I swatched it on my hand above it left a raised welt! The shimmery peach color that was provided in the box is very pretty on its own, but would also make a great topper. If I find that I’m using this gloss a lot (as I suspect I will), I may consider picking it up in the Spice Girl shade as well.
Marc Jacobs Fragrances Divine Decadence
As always, Sephora included a fragrance sample in the box and this month’s choice was the Marc Jacobs Fragrances Divine Decadence Eau de Parfum Spray. I haven’t given this a spritz yet, but I do love to try the latest fragrances without having to empty my wallet. I have so many fragrance samples, it’ll probably be a while before I need to buy new perfume. The full size bottle for this fragrance is absolutely divine as the name would suggest, but for some reason it’s never piqued my interest. But, that’s why it’s so nice to receive these sample boxes – it gives me an opportunity to try something that I might not have otherwise. That’s exactly how I fell in love with the Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Night Serum which I received as a sample a few months back.
I’m definitely jealous of those who received a fragrance sample of the TOM FORD Neroli Portofino Eau de Parfum Spray, which is my all-time favorite perfume (that I’m too cheap to actually buy). I’ve had a couple samples of this and ultimately bought the body oil which is a bit cheaper, but I am addicted to it!!
all-in-all I’m very happy with this month’s box. I know I will use each of the products I received, so none of it will go to waste. Plus, I’m a fan of the softer nude shades that were used for the theme, they suit my personality perfectly.
