The Summer Beauty Edit

In the summer I am always so inspired to try new products, and absolutely love a fresh face. This summer especially I’ve been loving a dewy, youthful look, which is so easy to create when you have the right products. Where I rely on powders and matte looks in the winter, the summer is for highlighters and bright pops of color!

There are certain products that I’ve been turning to again and again over the past couple months and I just can’t get enough. I would highly recommend these picks for your summer beauty edit if you’re into a healthy, glowing look.

Farmacy Green Screen Daily Environmental Protector SPF 30

First things first, I’ve finally found a daily SPF that I love! I’ve been on the hunt for a skin-safe sunscreen that won’t clog my pores or wear poorly underneath makeup. I had tried and loved the Caudalie Resveratrol Lift Face Lifting Moisturizer with SPF 20, but was more impressed with the ingredients found in the Farmacy Green Screen Daily Environmental Protector Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen. If you’ve tried the Josie Maran SPF, this smells and looks exactly the same. However, unlike the Josie Maran version, the Farmacy brand does not break me out and gives a ton more product for the price.

The long-wearing formula blocks not only damaging rays from the sun, but it also protects from blue light emitted from your phone or computer. I work in an office which means that I’m constantly being battered by blue light and sunlight filtering through the window. Since using this sunscreen I’ve noticed that my skin is more plush and smooth after an 8-hour work day, which helps to keep my skin looking more radiant and healthy.

Jergens Natural Glow Firming Daily Moisturizer

It’s been a few years since I’ve used the cult classic, Jergens Natural Glow +Firming Daily Moisturizer in Medium to Tan, but now that I’ve gone back I am in love with the results. While I must admit I’m not a huge fan of the scent, I find that this gradual tan gives me a much more natural color without the faff of a tanning mousse. I swear, the formula has changed because the color is so pretty now, giving a golden tan without looking orange in the least! If you’re like me and you want a great looking tan to go along with glowing skin, I highly recommend this gradual tan.

Unfortunately the face lotion does break me out, but it too gives a pretty, natural looking color. If your skin is less sensitive, the Jergens Face Daily Moisturizer Sunscreen Natural Glow SPF 20 is another great summer staple.

Glamglow Supermud Clearing Treatment

I am lucky to have relatively clear skin, but have had some troublesome spots on my chin from hormonal breakouts. While I’ve tried many different clearing masks, nothing has worked better than the GLAMGLOW SUPERMUD Clearing Treatment. While Glamglow products are on the pricey side, I feel that I only need to use a tiny amount to cover my problem areas and they clear up within a day or two. It’s actually incredible! Plus, with Sephora and other skincare providers I find that I can usually snag a sample that’s good for 5-6 uses, so I’ve never had to purchase the full size. With clear skin, glowing summer looks are a breeze to create so I love having this power product on hand when all hell breaks loose on my face.

The potent mud formula supports skin’s natural oil balance, while a proprietary blend of six acids works to dramatically brighten and soften the complexion. Activated-X charcoal lifts away dirt and other skin congestions, resulting in a refined, healthy-looking complexion.

Sephora Collection Colorful Cheek Ink Gel

For months I’ve been pining after the Glossier Cloud Paint Cream Blushes, which look absolutely gorgeous! However, at $18 a bottle (which is fair, to be honest), I was hesitant to make a purchase. I’ve never tried anything from Glossier, and I generally only wear cream formulas in the summer. But when I saw that the SEPHORA COLLECTION Colorful Cheek Ink Gel in Peony was on sale for $7, I thought it might be a nice alternative.

I’m so glad that I picked this gem up! The formula is gel-like as indicated in the title, and works beautifully with a synthetic stippling brush. Because it’s a gel formula, the pigmentation is easier to work with, giving such a natural flush which is just gorgeous on tan skin. I haven’t tried it with foundation, as I typically prefer a more natural skin look, but it does not budge the concealer that I use generously under my eyes and all around the nose area. Since this is a clearance product, I’d suggest picking it up now while you can! I’m a huge fan of this formula and am now considering picking up other shades.

Benefit Cosmetics Watt’s Up! Cream-to-Powder Highlighter

At the beginning of the season, I dug through my beauty collection to determine if there were products that I wanted to use up. I’ve had this generously sized sample of the Benefit Cosmetics Watt’s Up! Cream-to-Powder Highlighter for a while, and because it’s so small it’s gone unnoticed for a while. After moving this cute little tube from the depths of a drawer to my top-shelf picks, I can’t stop using it! I like to apply the beautiful shimmer to the tops of my cheek bones, bridge of my nose and cupid’s bow with my ring finger for a stunning glow. This is a more natural look, so if you’re a highlight junky that goes for the BAM look, this might not be for you. I love it with a bronzed look, adding plenty of coral blush to create the island goddess shimmer of your dreams.

John Frieda Frizz-Ease 10 Day Tamer

I’m not much for doing my hair, especially in the summer. Instead of using a blow dryer and flat iron or curling iron to make my room 100 degrees, I tend to let my hair air-dry for the sake of my sanity. I have naturally wavy (aka frizzy) hair, so it needs a little assistance to look presentable. I’ve been loving the John Frieda Frizz Ease 10 Day Tamer to keep my hair in check. You apply this conditioner to dry hair, and once you wash it out your hair will be silky smooth. I find that I only need to use it twice a month and it keeps my hair looking shiny and soft. I can throw my hair into a braid while wet, and once it dries I can unravel my locks for a beachy wave without the torturous heat of styling products.
